When you need this
You've just logged in and need to find an event to work on — whether that's setting up a new competition, checking live progress during a race, managing participants, or reviewing results after everyone has finished. The Event List is your starting point for everything in Navisport.
You'll also come here to access application-wide features like the participant database, timing device connections, and settings.
Finding and refreshing your events
You're looking for a specific event — maybe today's race, or one from last week that you need to revisit. The event list shows all your events in chronological order, with each event's name, date, and key details visible at a glance.
To narrow down what's shown, adjust the date range using the List events from date control. This is helpful when you have many events and need to find one from a specific time period.
If another organizer has made changes (added a new event, updated registrations) and you want to see the latest state, click the refresh button to reload the event list from the server.
Working with an event
You've found the event you want to work on. Click it to see what you can do — edit its settings, monitor live progress, manage participants, or view results.
Clicking any event opens the event options modal, showing the event name and the available actions:
| Action | What it does | Shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Edit event | Open the event editor to change dates, classes, courses, or settings. See Creating events. | CTRL+E |
| Event monitor | Open the live event monitor to track punch data and participant progress during the competition. Use this when the race is underway and you want to see who's on course, who's finished, and whether any issues are appearing. | CTRL+M |
| Backup event | Create a backup of the event. Use backups to restore event data if something goes wrong — for example, before making major changes to classes or registrations. | CTRL+S |
| Results | Open the results view to review, publish, and manage competition results. | |
| Participant information | Open the participant information view to add, edit, and delete participants and manage start lists. | |
| Announcer's window | Open the Announcer's window in a separate window for live commentary. Shows upcoming and passing competitors — useful when you have a speaker at the finish area. | |
| Participant stage transfers | Manage stage transfers — move participants to continuation classes based on results. Only shown when the event has stage classes configured. | |
| Delete event | Permanently delete the event and all its data. This action cannot be undone. |
The keyboard shortcuts work while the event options modal is open.
Accessing rental chips and participant data
You need to manage your organisation's rental chip inventory, look up a participant across events, or manage control code mappings. The top bar gives you quick access to these application-wide tools without needing to open a specific event first.
- Rental chips — Manage your organisation's rental chip inventory. See Rental Chips.
- Participant database — Access the shared participant database where you can manage participant data shared across all events
- Code lists — Manage control code mappings to control point names
Changing settings and managing your account
You want to change the application language, switch to dark mode, configure timing readers, or start a local server for offline use. The main menu (☰) in the top bar contains these options.
Click the menu icon (☰) to open the main menu:
- Change password — Change your account password
- Dark mode / Light mode — Switch between dark and light themes
- Settings — Open application settings such as language, theme, and other general preferences
- Serial Settings — Configure serial timing readers for timing devices (the icon shows green when connected, red when disconnected)
- Local server — Start a local server for device communication without an internet connection
- Log out — Sign out of your account
- Close application — Shut down the application
Checking connection status
You're working on event data and want to make sure your changes are reaching the server — or you notice a red bar at the top of the screen and need to understand what's happening. The connection status toolbar at the very top of the application window tells you whether data is syncing normally.
- No indicator — Everything is working normally, the application is connected to the server.
- Red toolbar with "No server connection" — The application has lost its connection to the server. Data changes are queued locally and will be synchronized when the connection is restored. You can keep working — nothing is lost.
- Red toolbar with "Unsynchronized server messages" — There are data changes that haven't been sent to the server yet. The toolbar shows the number of pending messages. Click the red toolbar to open a list of unsynchronized messages. From there you can review each message (showing timestamp, type, and details) and delete individual messages from the queue if needed.
Tip: If you see unsynchronized messages after your internet connection is back, give it a moment — they usually sync automatically. If messages remain stuck, review them to check whether any can be safely removed (e.g. duplicate saves from a connectivity blip).
Putting it together: Starting your race day
You arrive at the event venue an hour before the first start. Here's how you'd use the Event List to get everything ready.
- Log in to Navisport — the Event List appears showing your events
- Today's event should be near the top. If you don't see it, adjust the List events from date filter or click the refresh button to pull the latest data
- Click the event to open its options. Use Edit event (CTRL+E) for any last-minute changes to classes or settings
- Open Participant information to verify the start list is complete and correct
- Before the race starts, create a Backup (CTRL+S) — this gives you a restore point in case anything goes wrong during timing
- Once runners are on course, open the Event monitor (CTRL+M) to watch punch data flow in from mobile timing devices
- After the race, open Results to review, correct any issues, and publish final results
Throughout the day, glance at the connection status bar at the top. As long as it's clear (no red indicator), all data from your mobile timing devices is syncing to the desktop in real time.
